About ten minutes’ walk from Sóller’s square, on Carrer de l'Alqueria del Comte, the noise of the centre fades and you hear water: Molino’s terrace sits beside a historic irrigation channel, surrounded by plants and flowers that fill it with colour in spring. It’s small, with only a few tables, and inside there’s a quiet, cooler dining room. The house speciality is the mixed paella, made to order on a base of cuttlefish, chicken and pork, with prawns, mussels and crab; it’s the most-ordered dish, and there’s also caldereta (seafood stew) and sometimes lobster paella. The rest of the menu mixes homemade tapas with dishes from further afield. Worth ordering: the mixed croquettes (the garlic-prawn one is the favourite), patatas bravas with their own sauce, the cocas (flatbreads) – sobrassada with caramelised onion, or one made with xeixa, the island’s heritage wheat – fried squid with aioli and lamb shoulder; and for a change of tack, tacos, curries or a Thai-style fish. The kitchen is open all day, there’s a children’s menu and dogs are welcome. It’s a place to eat at your own pace, more locals and families than coach-trip crowds.
