Sa Calobra & Torrent de Pareis
Mallorca's iconic gorge beach: hike, swim, and marvel at towering cliffs.
View in the app · free, no sign-upSa Calobra is two things: a tiny harbour with restaurants and shops at the end of the MA-2141, and, ten minutes further on, the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis, a beach of white boulders about 25 metres wide between towering rock walls. The road drops some 800 metres in 12 kilometres from Coll dels Reis, with hairpins so tight that a coach and a car cannot pass in places, and hundreds of cyclists; from Palma it is easier to go via Inca, Caimari and Lluc than via Sóller. At the bottom there is only one pay car park, which fills up and closes in the early evening; you can also come on the boats from Port de Sóller or by bus. From the harbour a paved path runs along the sea and through two tunnels cut into the rock, with openings onto turquoise water; most of it works with a pushchair, apart from a few steps at the end. The beach is all stone: painful without water shoes, deep almost at once and not for children who cannot swim, and the walls put it in shade from mid-afternoon. What reviews keep saying: around 11 the coaches and boats arrive and it feels like a public pool, boats anchor very close in, some days bring jellyfish or murky water, the paid toilets are often locked and the restaurants are pricey. Come for the scenery rather than a day on the beach.
