Biniaraix is a hamlet of stone houses in the Sóller valley, about 2 km from the centre of Sóller, among orange groves and irrigation channels, with its square, church and old wash house. Right by the wash house starts the Barranc de Biniaraix, one of Mallorca's finest examples of dry-stone building and a protected heritage site since 1994: a cobbled path of nearly 2,000 steps, part of the GR 221, with bridges, terraces, springs and old estate houses. The climb up the gorge takes about 45 minutes and is manageable with children; from the top you can carry on to Puig de l'Ofre (about two more hours) and the Cúber reservoir (about three), or come back the same way.
