Caves of Artà

The Coves d'Artà are caves set into the cliffs at Canyamel, in the municipality of Capdepera on Mallorca's east coast (not in the town of Artà itself). You enter up a grand stairway built in 1860 and walk more than 700 metres through chambers 15 to 45 metres high, such as the Hall of Columns, with the 17-metre 'Queen of Columns' stalagmite, and the Inferno, with a light-and-sound show. Visits are guided only, last about 35–40 minutes, leave every half hour and run in Spanish, English, German and French. Tickets are €17 (€10 for ages 7–12). Inside it's 17–22 degrees and very humid, a welcome break in summer. Open all year.
