Omakase Japanese by the Paseo Marítimo, TripAdvisor's best fine dining in Spain

On the corner of Monsenyor Palmer and the Paseo Marítimo, Izakaya is Palma's best-known high-end Japanese restaurant: it won Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice Best of the Best 2025, which its website presents as the world's second-best fine-dining restaurant. In the kitchen are chef Carlos Piedrabuena, itamae Masahide Ozawa, sous-chef Karol Koper and sushi chef Andy Murakami. The idea is Japanese technique applied to top produce from close by: Balfegó bluefin tuna, red prawns from Sóller, Miyazaki A5 wagyu on the robata grill and wild cod marinated in miso. You can order à la carte, but the place makes most sense through its Omakase Experience menus of 6, 8 or 9 courses, which move from cuts of toro, hamachi and salmon to tuna belly, red prawn and wagyu. What people remember are the nigiri, with the rice just right, and the usuzukuri — paper-thin slices of raw fish, sometimes served as a trio of sea bream, hamachi and toro; the duck gyozas and the toro brioche with truffle are the other dishes regulars reorder. The sake list is long and the sommelier pairs with real judgement. Vegetarian dishes are properly thought through, not an afterthought, and allergens are marked on the menu. At lunchtime, a six-course menu with a glass of wine for €55 lets you try it without the dinner bill. The dining room is elegant and quiet, with a terrace in front and a counter; tables are close together and some share a bench.
