Singular Rooftop Terrace

The roof of the Sant Francesc Hotel Singular, the five-star hotel on Plaça de Sant Francesc, is a 200 m² terrace with a pool, sun deck and bar, and the basilica is so close its façade feels like part of the décor; beyond it you see the Cathedral and the old-town rooftops. By day it’s for hotel guests. It opens to outside visitors mainly in summer and in the evening, around sunset, and getting in depends on whether there’s room at that moment. You sit at tables, on sofas or on the loungers by the pool, with soft music and none of the bustle of other city-centre rooftops: it’s for a quiet drink, not for a DJ night. The cocktail list splits between well-made classics — order a dry martini and it arrives as it should — and house drinks such as a Basil Sour with gin, vermouth and basil or a smoky mezcal Paloma. To nibble there’s crystal bread with ramellet tomatoes, acorn-fed Iberian ham, the croquettes of the day and steak tartare, and if you want dinner up there, a paella ‘a la llauna’ with Mallorcan white prawns or the catch of the day Mallorcan-style. Prices are five-star prices, tinto de verano included, and service puts hotel guests first: when the terrace is full, you’ll wait.
