The Rooftop El Vicenç de la Mar
Above Cala Molins and facing the great rock wall of Cavall Bernat.
View in the app · free, no sign-upThe rooftop of the El Vicenç de la Mar hotel in Cala Sant Vicenç looks straight out over the waters of Cala Molins and the bulk of the Cavall Bernat ridge. Its 380 square metres are split into three areas: a guests-only pool, a bar also open to non-residents and the U Vicenç restaurant. The cooking is run by Santi Taura's group, and that's what sets it apart from other hotel rooftops: the evening menu is Mallorcan, reworked with island produce. There's ensaïmada filled with a guinea fowl stew and almond sauce, roast suckling pig of porc negre (the island's black pig) with glazed patató (Mallorcan potato), creamy Mallorcan lobster rice or the 'señorito's lobster' with chips and fried eggs, plus lamb with rancio wine and, to start, a langoustine brioche you can order with caviar. To get the whole picture at once, there's an eight-course tasting menu for the whole table, with an optional pairing of six local wines; for dessert, Mallorcan almond coulant or a tiramisu with the island's sweet rum. By day, until late afternoon, the rooftop works as a snack bar: oysters, a mini squid sandwich, cocido or spinach and green curry croquetas, crispy prawns with apricot teriyaki, a falafel pitta and a wagyu burger. At sunset the light fades over the Cavall Bernat, although the sun doesn't set straight ahead, and at night there are fire heaters. It's expensive, especially the drinks, and the feel is five-star hotel throughout: better for a special dinner or a drink with a view than a quick bite.
