From the early 20th century until 1978, this house of more than 300 years on Carrer Vell, a step from the Charterhouse, was Can Jordi, Valldemossa's main grocery store, run by 'Tio' Jordi and his family. It stayed shut until 2019, when Alessandro and Massimo reopened it as QuitaPenas, keeping the old furniture and fittings. You eat inside, in a covered courtyard or on the small upstairs terrace looking out to the mountains.

The menu fits on one line, and that's the point: you come here for pa amb oli. Toasted bread rubbed with garlic and ramallet tomatoes, Tramuntana olive oil and island produce on top. The classic board brings four pa amb olis already cut for sharing (camaiot, sobrassada, cheese, and fuet or longaniza sausage), and there's a vegetarian board with vegetables and cheese. To start, olives, almonds or cured meats; to drink, Mallorcan wine, vermouth or craft beer; and for dessert, almond granizado or apple tart. The camaiot one, a Mallorcan cured sausage few people know outside the island, gets the most praise.

If you want variety you'll be disappointed; if you want to understand what a good pa amb oli is and taste the island's charcuterie in a house with history, few places in the village do it better. Some of the produce, such as the sobrassada, is also sold to take away.
