Mallorca in December

Lights and Christmas markets in Palma, the Song of the Sibyl on Christmas Eve and sunny winter days: Christmas, Mallorcan style.

In December, Palma has an average high of 16 °C and an average low of 10 °C, the sea is around 17 °C and it rains on about 7 days (averages 2016–2025).

December is Christmas, Mallorcan style: Palma fills with lights and Christmas markets, the bakeries sell turrón and cream ensaïmadas, and sunny winter days, with highs of around 16 °C, are perfect for a walk and lunch on a terrace. It gets dark early, around half past five, so make the most of the mornings.

The most special tradition is the Cant de la Sibil·la, the Song of the Sibyl, sung in churches all over the island at Christmas Eve mass and listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage; the one in Palma Cathedral is the best known. Many places close on 25 December and 1 January, and on the coast most are still closed for the season.
